Moravské divadlo Olomouc (MDO) patří k nejstarším divadelním budovám (otevřeno 1830) u nás. Čítá tři umělecké soubory – opera/opereta, činohra a balet. Od roku 2013 je jeho ředitelem Pavel Hekela.
V polistopadovém vedení činohry MDO se vystřídala řada osobností – mj. Karel Nováček, Peter Gábor, Václav Klemens či Roman Groszmann, které se střídavými úspěchy čelily úskalí abonentského systému. Spolupráce s Univerzitou Palackého za šéfování Ivana Baladi vedla ke vzniku studiové scény Hořící žirafy (1994–2003) spojené se jménem dramatika Davida Drábka.
S novým ředitelem Josefem Podstatou přišli v roce 2010 umělecký šéf Michael Tarant a dramaturg Milan Šotek. Za jejich působení se činoherní soubor generačně obměnil a repertoárově emancipoval – např. Glaserova režie Schimmelpfennigovy hry Arabská noc získala Cenu Josefa Balvína 2012. Od příští sezony činohru povede dosavadní člen hereckého souboru Roman Vencl, jenž je jako spoluautor a režisér podepsán pod komediemi Když se zhasne, Královny či Najdeme se na Ztracené.
Soubor opery a operety pod taktovkou dirigenta Miloslava Oswalda hraje klasické i objevné tituly – českou premiéru zde měla opera Zdeňka Pololáníka Noc plná světla (2013) či oceňovaný Ullmanův opus Pád Antikrista. Tarantova režie Verdiho Atilly obdržela hlavní cenu na festivalu Opera 2007. Za ztvárnění Falstaffa ve stejnojmenné inscenaci Verdiho opery získal Jiří Přibyl Cenu Thálie 2014.
V roce 1996 inicioval tehdejší ředitel Václav Kožušník vznik Divadelní Flory – projektu, který se z oblastní přehlídky vícesouborových divadel vyprofiloval do podoby mezinárodního festivalu a který od roku 2009 pořádá o.s. Divadlo Konvikt, transformované v o.p.s. DW7.

Moravian Theatre Olomouc is situated in one of the oldest theatre buildings in this country (opened in 1830). It consists of three artistic sections (opera/operetta, drama, and ballet). Since 2013, Pavel Hekela has been its director.
After the Velvet Revolution, various personalities have held the post of the artistic director of the drama section and tried to fight the difficulties of the season ticket holder system – besides others e.g. Karel Nováček, Peter Gábor, Václav Klemens or Roman Groszmann. Ivan Balada, one of the former directors, cooperated with the Palacký University which resulted in the founding of the studio stage called The Burning Giraffe (1994–2003) which was associated with the name of dramaturge David Drábek. The new director of the theatre Josef Podstata came to the theatre in 2010, together with the new artistic director Michael Tarant and dramaturge Milan Šotek who greatly influenced the ensemble and emancipated it dramaturgically. The production of Schimmelpfennig's play Arabian Night directed by Martin Glaser was awarded the Josef Balvín Award in 2012. From the next season, the theatre will be led by a member of the drama ensemble, Roman Vencl, who as a co-author and director signed under the comedies Když se zhasne, Královny and Najdeme se na Ztracené.
The opera and operetta ensemble is led by the conductor Miloslav Oswald who stages classic as well as innovative pieces – the Czech premiere of Zdeněk Pololáník's opera Night Full of Light (2013) or the awarded opus by Ullman The Fall of the Antichrist. Tarant's direction of Verdi's Atilla received the main prize at the Opera 2007 festival. Jiří Přibyl received the Thalia 2014 Award for the performance of Falstaff in the opera of the same title.
In 1996 the then director of the theatre Václav Kožušník (1996–2010) initiated the birth of the Flora Theatre Festival – a project that started as a regional festival of Moravian theatres but worked its way up to be one of the international theatre festivals organized since 2009 by Divadlo Konvikt, a civic association, which has transformed into the DW7 public benefit organization.
