THE CASE ŠVEJK

Besides the dance production of the Flora Theatre Festival which has a tradition in the Visegrad Performing Arts section, each year the festival focuses on one of the most progressive theatre scenes. In 2012 it was the closing Divadlo Komedie, then Reduta from Brno presented their work, followed by Petr Bezruč Theatre and Divadlo Na zábradlí. This edition brings profile of Studio Hrdinů which has created a stable group of audiences in their rather short existence and a distinct response from the critics: The Case Švejk – winner of the Drama category and Skugga Baldur – winner of Alternative Theatre category at Theatre Newspaper Awards in the 2015/16 season (last year surprise of the festival), Karel Dobrý was awarded the Theatre Newspaper Award for his role in Kamila Polívková's production The Day of the Oprichnik and the Alfred Radok Award in 2013. Studio Hrdinů was created in 2011 as an open theatre scene with clear dramaturgical aim and an effort to start a proper interdisciplinary art dialogue. The main focus lies in original projects with emphasis on cooperation with other Czech and foreign artists and in genre interference. Since autumn 2012 the main productions have been staged at Studio Hrdinů in Veletržní palác building at the National Gallery in Prague. Besides the in-house directors Kamila Polívková (2012: SAM, 2013: The Day of the Oprichnik, 2013: The Milena's Recipes, 2014: The Animal Kingdom, 2016: Skugga Baldur, Actor and Carpenter...), Katharina Schmitt (2012: England, 2013: Black Mirrors, 2014: The Blood of the Wälsungs, 2015: A Report on the Party and the Guests) and duo of directors Jan Horák and Michal Pěchouček (2012: The Church, 2013: The Emotional Poseur, 2015: Marbot, 2017: Cell No.) the theatre also cooperates with the former creative team of Divadlo Komedie Dušan D. Pařízek (2015: The Case Švejk) and David Jařab (2016: White Dogs and Black Cats) but also Jan Nebeský (2013: Walser, the Assistant, 2014: The Silent Scream), and Miroslav Bambušek (2014: The Wasteland, 2017: The Works).
