An unusual piece by choreographer Keren Levi focuses on the stereotypical
perception of female body and attracts out attention to the gap
stretching between the beauty and pornography. Naomi Wolf's book
“The Beauty Myth” was a great source of inspiration for this piece as well
as works by film director Busby Berkeley, who perceived a woman as
an object, a “building material” of stylised and geometrically symmetrical
choreographies. The piece which is aesthetically pleasing, erotic yet
deeply human, reflects in series of live images the relation between female
identity and routine conceptions about beauty. Naked dancers
dancing behind a projection screen confront audience with the violence
that a stare can do to a body. The production won at the Dutch Dance
Festival 2013 and received the Dioraphte Dance Prize awarded to production
with the biggest international potential.
XL Edition is an adaptation for big stage. It extends the initial version
from 4 to 8 dancers which changes the feel of the production significantly
– it gives magnificence to the originally intimate production.

Keren Levi (1972) is a free-lance dancer, choreographer and teacher. She
was born is Israel but lives and works in Amsterdam. With her production
Territory (2004) she won the BNG Dance Award 2005 and gained international
renown. Her other choreographies also met with great success
such as the duets with Ugo Dehaes Couple-Like (2006) and couple-like
#2 (2010), which received the Zilveren Krekel Award 2011. In cooperation
with Oren Laor and Niv Sheinfeld she created the production Big Mouth
(2009). At present she finishes her Master's degree at the Amsterdam
University of the Arts (AHK) and gives dance lectures all around Europe.
While creating a production she rigorously involves all the participants
and therefore very distinctive collective pieces are born. She views
her role as a mediator giving support and inspiration.
