In mid May this year – from 13th to 20th – the whole city of Olomouc will once again revive with the 15th edition of the Flora Theatre Festival. This non-competition festival will host around 50 productions on seven stages. During the rich programme of the festival, a wide range of theatre events will be presented to the audience: productions of drama, projects of dance or non-verbal theatre, theatre performances and improvisations and also productions for children or workshops of contemporary dance. There will also be several concerts and film screenings. For many years, the Flora Theatre Festival had always a leitmotif influencing the theme and dramaturgy of the non-competition festival. This year, the organizers – the Divadlo Konvikt, Civic Association – decided to invite to Olomouc the most interesting and most inspiring Czech productions of the season regardless the genre or theme. The 15th Flora Theatre Festival (DF) will thus present the works of renowned Czech stage directors (such as Jan Mikulášek, Dušan Pařízek, Vladimír Morávek, Daniel Špinar, Jiří Pokorný, Václav Kuneš, Michael Tarant, Jan Nebeský, Lenka Vágnerová, Jan Frič, Jiří Havelka, Jiří Jelínek and others) and also international co-production projects in which distinct personalities or ensembles of the Czech dance scene are involved. The stage of the Moravian TheatreOn the stage of the co-hosting Moravian Theatre, you can see the productions of the most prominent guest ensembles: the progressive scene of the National Theatre in Brno – Reduta Theatre (Dora Viceníková: Correspondence V+W), Divadlo Komedie (Peter Handke: Offending the Audience 2010), Divadlo v Dlouhé (William Shakespeare: Macbeth), Divadlo Husa na provázku (Michail Bulgakov: The Maestro and Margarita), Městské Divadlo Kladno (A. P. Chekhov: The Seagull), Dejvické divadlo (Patrick Marber: Dealer's Choice) and the international dance company 420People (Affordance). Konvikt In the premises of the so-called Konvikt (the Art Centre of Palacký University), the festival productions will be held in K3 and also in the circus tent on the ramparts. The theatre groups performing here will be Studio Damúza (Egon Tobiáš: NoD Quijote), dance companies VerTeDance (Found and Lost) and DOT 504 (choreography Mah Hunt and Perfect Day), A Studio Rubín (Cabaret Hašek), Vosto5 Theatre (the newest production Operation: Left Hook and the famous Stand’art Cabaret), Divadlo Dno from Hradec Králové (the authorial production of Hospodin/Our Lord and cokoLIVE), the dancer Karla Shacklock (Lucie Petrušová: Nobody) or the improvisation groups O.LI.V.Y. & PRA.L.I.NY, and many other interesting guests. For the youngest visitors, two productions of fairy-tales will be performed in the circus tent. Concerts Within the music programme, the Polish bands Miloopa and Kamp! will perform on the courtyard of Konvikt as well as the Hungarian group Korai Öröm and the band Živé kvety from Slovakia. Jazz Tibet Club will hold an outstanding performance of The Festive Pop: audiovisual bio/graph by artist Petr Nikl and musicians Milan Cais, Jiří Hradil & Ondřej Smeykal. The stage in the circus tent will host productions of several DJs and also the phenomenal keyboardist Zsolt Kaltenecker from Hungary with his new project Hammondarium or a group called Akne auf der Stirn. Films In connection with the concept of the programme of the festival, the visitors will be able to see 9 film screenings at the film hall at Konvikt for free (mainly film adaptations of Czech theatre plays written before 1945), including 3 films mapping the film work of two renowned personalities of the Czech avant-garde theatre – Jiří Voskovec and Jan Werich (Powder and Petrol, Heave Ho!, The World Belongs to Us). The film enthusiasts will have the chance to enjoy the films directed by Martin Frič, Jindřich Honzl, Josef Rovenský, Hugo Haas, Alfréd Radok and Václav Krška. Four premieres This year’s Flora Theatre Festival will host two premieres from Olomouc – an adaptation of Vančura’s novel Marketa Lazarová (performed by the Moravian Theatre in Olomouc, directed by its artistic director Michael Tarant) and Kurt Vonnegut’s Slapstick (performed by Divadlo na cucky, directed by Jiří Jelínek). Moreover, there will be two world premieres (!) prepared exclusively for the festival: a dance duet Beyond by a British choreographer Karla Shacklock (performed by Lucie Petrušová a Lucia Kickham) and the newest production Found and Lost by the renowned Swedish dancer and choreographer Charlotta Öfverholm (performed by Veronika Kotlíková and Tereza Ondrová from VerTeDance). Tickets The tickets for the festival can be purchased at the box office of the Moravian Theatre in Olomouc from 26th of April. There will be free admission to approximately one third of the productions (the DJs in the circus tent, productions for children and all the films). |
