In late June 2010, the company's circus tent will see the premiere of Divadlo na cucky's last production of this theatre season. The drama Woyzeck will be treated as a theatrical circus encompassing the theme of respect of one human toward another. Immediately after its premiere, the project will hit the road and visit a score of theatre festivals, returning back to Olomouc this September. As part of the DF 2010 programme, Woyzeck_concept will be shown as an invitation to the full-fledged production. Come and take a look behind the scenes of a theatre production as work in progress.


Georg Büchner (1813–1837) was born in Goddelau, Germany. He studied philosophy, medicine and natural sciences. Due to his revolutionary activities, he had to flee to France where he went on to become a translator before moving to Switzerland where he finished his doctoral studies in philosophy. His dramatic work consists of three plays that originated over the period of two years as a mixture of romantic and naturalistic elements that only later came to be appreciated by expressionism and postmodernism. Woyzeck is a dramatic fragment inspired by actual events and existing in two versions.


Ján Mikuš (b. 1984) was born in Topolčany, Slovakia. After finishing his training of mechanical engineering, he went on to study theatre direction at JAMU Academy in Brno. In autumn 2009, he attended a fellowship program at Bratislava's VŠMU Academy where he adapted Kafka's The Castle for theatre. He is a regular director of Divadlo na cucky and founder of the world clown society Champ de tension. Recently, he has been gaining success as actor in his own authorial production Werther, Werther, which will also be presented at this year's DF festival.


Divadlo na cucky (Theatre to Shreds) is an independent theatre platform cooperating with young professional artists, theatre school students and amateurs. In their choice of dramatic texts, the company is trying to focus on contemporary drama, original interpretation of world classic drama and authorial projects. Although the company collaborates with Divadlo Konvikt, Civic Association, in the field of production, their performances may be seen not only at the Art Centre of Palacký University, but also at Divadlo Hudby Olomouc, as open-air performances and, starting this year, also in their brand new circus tent, Kiosek (“The Kiosk”). The company's performances have appeared at a number of major theatre festivals both at home and abroad.
