Lachende Bestien

The Prague-based alternative theatre company Lachende Bestien was formed around director Michal Hába, musician Jindřich Čížek, and set designer Adriana Černá back in 2011. The group is considered one of the most progressive theatre companies today. In addition to performing at Divadlo X10 in Prague, they expanded their activities in the 2025/6 season to include the international project Chemnitz Utopia, which is also connected to their work at the Činoherní studio in Ústí nad Labem.
Lachende Bestien builds on the tradition of Brechtian theatre, not only through distanced acting but especially their analytical view of reality. In their projects, they address and challenge the idea of capitalism and systematically engage with social inequality. The result of this approach is socially critical, engaged, and provocative theatre, characterized by self-irony and a sense of perspective on serious topics. Regular collaborators include actors Mark Kristián Hochman, Kryštof Bartoš, and Ondřej Jiráček.
