Pavol Viecha (1996) is a Slovak director, author and scriptwriter. In addition to classic texts and dramas (The Imaginary Invalid, The Lonesome West, The Kreutzer Sonata), he searches for subjects from Slovak history and authentic materials, e.g. diaries, police reports, newspapers, using the documentary method to develop authorial projects in which he highlights age-old cultural and ethnic prejudices, e.g. a memento of the pogrom on a Romani settlement, Just Wait for It! We’re Coming for You! (SND Bratislava), an authorial project about young radicals, Manifest, or a one-act play about otherness, Hey! Slovaks (both at Mestské divadlo Žilina).
He is a long-time director of the theatre ensemble of blind and visually impaired actors Zrakáč. In 2022, he completed his doctoral studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, where he currently works as a lecturer. He is also involved in film, television and podcast production (satirical project KKTV – Konečne kritická televízia). He is a guitarist in the band O Gadže Bašaven – translated as “Non-Roma Play” – where a group of gadje enthusiastically play Romani songs.
This March, he made his directorial debut on a Czech stage – at Divadlo X10 he staged an adaptation of A. Barba’s novel A Luminous Republic.
