Slovenské komorné divadlo (SKD), or the Slovak Chamber Theatre, in Martin was founded in 1944 as the second professional Slovak theatre. A strong tradition of amateur theatre destined Martin to become another centre of theatre culture. In terms of dramaturgy and directorial interpretation it was and still is one of the most remarkable stages in Slovakia.
The SKD has always had a significant influence on the formation of Slovak acting and many of those who worked in Martin have become theatre icons. To this day, the theatre still has one of the finest artistic ensembles, but at the same time it is full of distinctive acting individuals.
SKD is one of Flora’s regular guests – think of the non-conformist Three Sisters (2022) or Iokaste from 2023.
The theatre organises the festival Dotyky a spojenia – a showcase of the most interesting and inspiring Slovak productions of the current season.
