Lukáš Brutovský

Theatre director and composer Lukáš Brutovský (1988) graduated in directing and dramaturgy from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, where he also received his PhD. In his directorial concepts he does not rely on spectacular stage imagery, but interprets the theme primarily through actors and actresses. His work relies on simple, even minimalist scenography and precisely constructed situations, often with anti-illusionistic elements. Since his studies, he has been working in a successful tandem with dramaturge Miroslav Dacho.
He regularly collaborates with various Slovak and Czech theatres. His radical take on Marysha at Brno’s HaDivadlo earned him the Divadelní noviny Award for Production of the Year 2014 and is still in repertoire. He also translates from German and has written several radio and theatre plays.

Since 2015, he has been the artistic director of the Slovak Chamber Theatre in Martin. At previous editions of Flora he presented Ostrovsky’s grotesque comedy The Forest and the stage collage Iokaste.
