Júlia Rázusová (1982) is one of the most prominent theatre directors in Slovakia. The artistic style of the graduate of aesthetics, Slovak studies and directing shows signs of physical and experimental theatre and is based on a clearly formulated authorial opinion. She often collaborates with interdisciplinary advisers in the creation of her productions and thematically focuses on political or social issues of today. She also creates radio plays for children and youth as well as adults.
Between 2013 and 2020, she was the artistic director of the Prešov National Theatre. After it was closed, she co-founded the independent ensemble Slzy Janka Borodáča, which carries on its values and mission.
Júlia Rázusová is a three-time winner of the prestigious Slovak DOSKY Award for the Best Direction, namely for her productions Znovuzjednotenie Kóreí (The Reunion of the Koreas, 2018), Moral Insanity (2019) and Outcast (2024). She first appeared at the Flora Theatre Festival in 2022 with the feminist gloss Decay of Absolute Thinking, produced by Divadlo na cucky, which was also her directorial debut on a Czech stage, followed by directing at Divadlo Komedie and HaDivadlo.
Last year, she presented her original production Outcast at the festival. This compelling “physical poem”, based on Stefan Zweig’s memoir The World of Yesterday, was named Best Production of the Season at the DOSKY Awards, and Júlia Rázusová also won the award for Best Direction.
