Renowned choreographer and performer Jaro Viňarský (1978) studied ballet choreography at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava and dance choreography at the Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. He has received numerous awards for his performance art and choreographic work, including the Sazka Award for the “best emerging dance artist” and the so-called “dance Oscar”, i.e. the prestigious New York Dance and Performing Arts Award, also known as the Bessie Award. In 2011, he founded SKOK!, a civic association focused on the development of contemporary dance and physical theatre in Slovakia. His work is well known to festival audiences. Most recently at Flora he presented the production You Are Here, directed by Petra Tejnorová.
