Moravian Theatre Olomouc (Moravské divadlo Olomouc: MDO) is one of the oldest theatre buildings in the country (opened in 1830). It houses three ensembles – opera/operetta, ballet, and drama, and has been headed by Roman Vencl since 2016. The ballet section has been led by Jan Fousek since 2022. Starting this season, and succeeding Veronika Kos Loulová, the artistic director of opera and operetta is Jiří Přibyl, a longtime soloist there and a Thalia Award winner.
In 1996, Václav Kožušník, then the director of MDO, initiated the creation of Divadelní Flora (Flora Theatre Festival) – a project that has evolved from a regional showcase of Moravian multi-company theatres into one of Central Europe’s most prestigious festivals.
