Divadlo Polárka

The Polárka Theatre is a Brno-based theatre for children and young people. Its programming caters to an audience ranging from newborns to adults. The theatre’s amateur predecessors were the Sokol Brno I Puppet Theatre ensemble (founded in 1930) and later the Jitřenka Theatre. The theatre became fully professional in 1999.
Polárka emphasizes original works. It invites both renowned creators and young talents – students or graduates of theatre schools – to collaborate. Prominent artistic figures have worked here, whose artistic vision has shaped the theatre’s identity, such as Martin Františák, Jan Mikulášek, Zoja Mikotová, Konrád Popel, and Hana Mikolášková. In addition to the larger hall, the theatre performs on the intimate Small Stage, where it concentrates productions for very young children and experimental formats. In September, it hosts the Polárkový dort festival. Starting with the 2022/23 season, the theatre is under the artistic direction of actor and director Jiří Hajdyla.
