Dejvické divadlo

Since its origins in 1992, the Dejvické Divadlo (DD) or Dejvice Theatre has established itself as one of the most prestigious theatres in the Czech Republic. In 1996, when the founding creative ensemble led by Jan Borna decided to move to Divadlo v Dlouhé, an opportunity opened up for recent graduates of the Department of Alternative and Puppet Theatre at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (KALD DAMU) – specifically the class of Miroslav Krobot, who joined the theatre as its artistic director.

The theatre has consistently enjoyed the favour of both audiences and critics; the term “phenomenon” is certainly apt. Other projects have also contributed to its popularity, such as the television sitcom The Fourth Star (2014) and the comedy-mystification series The End of Dejvice Theatre. Among the theatre’s major achievements is the adaptation of The Brothers Karamazov (2000, directed by L. Hlavica), which remained in the repertoire for fourteen seasons, was adapted into a film (directed by P. Zelenka, 2008), and was also seen by festival audiences in Olomouc in 2002. A record collection of awards also came for the productions The Man Without a PastA Blockage in the SystemOblomov, and Dealer’s Choice, which was also presented at Flora.

Following the Krobot era, director Michal Vajdička became the artistic director of the Dejvické divadlo in 2014, and in 2017 he was succeeded by longtime theatre member and actor Martin Myšička. The theatre, whose building is undergoing extensive renovation, found a home for two seasons at the Galaxie Cultural Station in Háje (the building of a former multiplex cinema).

Since 2026, the theatre has been led by theatre and film director and actor Jiří Havelka, whose acclaimed production of The Murder of Gonzago marked the Dejvice ensemble's last appearance at the Flora Theatre Festival in 2019. Frič's Vultures will be their fourth guest performance at the Flora Theatre Festival.
