Adam Svozil (1991) graduated in directing at the the Department of Dramatic Theatre at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. For his graduation production, The Ritual Slaughter of Gorge Mastromas by British playwright Dennis Kelly, he won the Mark Ravenhill Award in 2015. He is also the winner of the 2019 Josef Balvín Award for his production of Roland Schimmelpfennig’s text Winter Solstice. He has collaborated with a number of theatres, including Divadlo Na zábradlí, Činoherní studio Ústí nad Labem, Švandovo divadlo, and Jihočeské divadlo, where he also worked as a resident director from 2019 to 2023. In his work, he has long reflected on current pressing social and political issues, exploring how they are inscribed in our personal or intimate sphere. He focuses primarily on contemporary dramatic and prose texts, but also creates his own authorial productions. In addition to theatre, he also directs radio plays and fairy tales for Czech Radio.
Since his studies he often worked in tandem with the dramaturge and director Kristýna Jankovcová – before she left the theatre due to the bleak financial conditions in the Czech cultural scene. Together they staged the production Introduction to Contemporary Awkwardness at Divadlo na cucky, which was presented at Fora in 2022.
