The 27th Flora starts next week and its motto Freedom is resonating more and more strongly not only in digital but also in public space. For several weeks, the expressive gesture of painter Jiří Sedlák will enliven the streets of Olomouc and the interiors of the festival scenes…

After Adéla Janská, whose paintings last year communicated with the motto Otherness (we wrote about it here), this year the festival reached out to the Olomouc painter Jiří Sedlák.

„With regard to the annual leitmotif of Divadelní Flora, Jiří was an ideal candidate for me to collaborate on the current visual. His expressive, almost abstract position corresponds suggestively with the motto Freedom,“ comments Radim Měsíc, a graphic designer from 27DF, on the idea of the visual. „Just like last year, this time too there is an intersection of two media – a painter enters digital graphic design with his analogue means of expression. Into the austere template with factual data, Jiří has vividly imprinted an urgent imperative,“ adds Měsíc.

Dozens of meters of paper sheets with several layers of oil paintings were documented photographically by Jan Andreáš. The music for Měsíc's video was composed by Alex Vičar.

Olomouc-based painter Jiří Sedlák (*1985) graduated from the Drawing Studio of doc. Josef Daňek at the Faculty of Arts in Ostrava (2011–2016). He has had several group and solo exhibitions (among others at Industra Brno, SEFO Triennial – Galerie Caesar Olomouc, Gallery of Contemporary Art Prostějov, Photogether gallery Zlín). He is a teacher at the Secondary School of Design and Fashion in Prostějov.
