Today we celebrate International Dance Day. How is the motto Freedom reflected in the titles of the dance and performance art section of this year's programme? The dramaturge Jitka Pavlišová will tell you…

„The motto Freedom permeates all the selected works, which in their dialogue with each other across the festival programme reveal other common levels of meaning. This year we can literally speak of a range of possibilities of what freedom means to us in the context of today's world: from the confinement of individuals' lives under the grip of power ideologies and wars (HAPPY BIRTHDAY and both of Kuźmiński's performances), through the oscillation between the tightness and freedom of human identity (DELICATE, ANOMALIE), the manifestation of the regaining of freedom (BÉTON BRUT) to the unbridledness of the child's mind and the power of human creativity as such (MICROWORLDS). We are also looking forward to the premiere of FREEDOM IN MOTION performed by the Ballet ensemble of Moravské Divadlo, for which the theme of freedom and liberty is the starting point, its initial impulse.“

International Dance Day aims to connect and celebrate dance as a universal form of expression. A language that everyone speaks and that can also bring people together – regardless of linguistic, political, cultural and ethnic barriers. The holiday was proclaimed in 1982 by the International Theatre Institute (ITI) Dance Committee and has since been observed annually on 29 April to commemorate the birth of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727–1810), French ballet master, pioneer and reformer of dance.
