Director and actor Bogdan Kokotek (1967) was born as a Polish citizen in the Czech part of Český Těšín. He studied acting (1987–1991) and direction (1997–2001) at the Theatre Academy in Warsaw. From the age of 18 he has been associated with the Polish scene of Těšín theatre where he first worked as a technician, after graduating as an actor and director, and he has worked here as the artistic director since 2003. As a guest director, he produced around 40 pieces,  in Polish cities such as Płock, Radom and Zielona Góra; in the Czech Republic he regularly works with the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava.

At the Moravian Theatre Olomouc, he has so far directed four productions: Measure for Measure(2011), Marriage(2012), The Gingerbread Lady (2015) and his latest project The Master and Margarita(2016).

Moravian Theatre Olomouc (MDO) is situated in one of the oldest theatre buildings (opened in 1830) in the country. It consists of three artistic sections (opera/operetta, drama, and ballet). Since 2013 Pavel Hekela has been its director.

After the Velvet Revolution, various personalities have held the post of artistic director of the drama section such as Karel Nováček, Peter Gábor, Václav Klemens and Roman Groszmann. Cooperation with Palacký University under the artistic direction of Ivan Balada resulted in establishing The Burning Giraffe (1994–2003) Studio associated with the name of playwright David Drábek. As of this season, the drama section is directed by author of comedies and actor Roman Vencl who took the office of artistic director after Michael Tarant.

The opera and operetta ensemble is led by the conductor Miloslav Oswald who stages classic as well as innovative pieces – the Czech premiere of Zdeněk Pololáník's opera Night Full of Light (2013) and the amazing Ullman's opus The Fall of the Antichrist directed by J.A. Pitínský awarded the Music Theatre of 2014/2015 by the Theatre Newspaper Award. The bass singer Jiří Přibyl received the Thalia Award for the performance of Falstaff in the opera of the same title in 2014.

In 1996 the then director of the theatre Václav Kožušník initiated the birth of the Flora Theatre Festival. A project that started as a regional festival of Moravian theatres but has worked its way up to be a well-respected international theatre festival. It has been run by the DW7 organization since 2009.
